The teaching of Physics and Chemistry at the senior high school level at Beatriz Cueva de Ayora School faces significant challenges related to low student motivation, limited participation, and insufficient development of critical thinking skills, which are reflected in poor academic performance. There is a noticeable lack of interest in scientific subjects due to the predominance of theoretical content and the limited application of knowledge in real-life contexts.
This situation is largely associated with traditional teaching practices characterized by minimal classroom interaction, limited use of educational technologies, and insufficient implementation of innovative instructional resources. Additionally, the school’s infrastructure—particularly science laboratories—is not fully utilized, restricting opportunities for experimental and inquiry-based learning.
In response, the educational project adopts a research-oriented approach focused on analyzing current pedagogical practices and designing innovative teaching strategies. It proposes the incorporation of active learning methodologies, the integration of educational technologies, and the development of experimental activities that promote meaningful learning and a deeper understanding of the national curriculum content.
Through the implementation and evaluation of these strategies, the project aims to improve students’ attitudes toward Physics and Chemistry, strengthen critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and encourage the application of scientific knowledge to everyday situations. Ultimately, the proposal seeks to enhance educational quality and academic performance in science education at the high school level.
Keywords: innovative teaching; active learning; meaningful learning; critical thinking; science education; academic performance.
