Abstract

Physical performance among military personnel is a fundamental pillar for operational success in security and defense missions. Historically, institutional physical conditioning has focused on long-duration aerobic endurance and calisthenics, with limited emphasis on neuromuscular strength development. This study analyzed the effect of an adapted CrossFit program focused on three dimensions (strength, power, and explosive capacity, operationalized respectively as maximum strength, explosive strength, and strength endurance) on the physical fitness of Ecuadorian Air Force (FAE) personnel. A quantitative approach and a quasi-experimental design with pretest and posttest evaluations were used. The sample consisted of 20 active FAE members (Latacunga) of both sexes who completed a planned eight-week intervention. Assessment instruments included the 2-Mile Test, the 1RM deadlift test, the standing broad jump, and the tactical "Cindy" circuit. Normality was evaluated using the Shapiro-Wilk test, and mean comparisons were conducted via Student's t-test for related samples, setting a significance level of p < 0.05 and estimating effect size through Hedges' g for small samples. The results showed significant quantitative improvements in all manifestations of strength, as well as in global cardiovascular fitness. In conclusion, CrossFit focused on strength, power, and explosive capacity represents an efficient method to optimize military physical fitness in an integrated manner regardless of gender.
