Abstract

The study evaluated the resistance to sorption and acid dissolution of two resin-modified glass ionomers (RMGICs) due to their relevance in the durability of dental restorations in humid and acidic environments. The research sought to compare the behavior of the RMGICs Equia Forte and Fuji Triage using an experimental in vitro model. The design included the elaboration of 20 discs of each material with standardized dimensions, subjected to immersion in distilled water (24 h) and then in 3% citric acid (24 h), measuring the initial weight, post-sorption and post-dissolution with an analytical balance. The statistical analysis used Shapiro-Wilk, Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis normality tests with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that both materials presented a statistically non-significant sorption weight gain. However, Equia Forte demonstrated greater resistance to acid dissolution (p=0.0006), while Fuji Triage experienced greater degradation (p=0.004). It was concluded that, although both RMGICs absorb moisture, Equia Forte performs better against acidic media, suggesting greater clinical durability in oral environments with high cariogenic activity or frequent exposure to acidic beverages.
