Occupational Health and Safety to mitigate adverse events among workers in a company in the metalworking sector

The main purpose of the research was to determine whether the implementation of an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) influences the mitigation of accidents and incidents within an organization dedicated to the metalworking sector.
The material used consisted of a structured observation form designed to record occupational safety indicators: frequency rate, severity rate, accident rate, occupational accident prevention rate, and incident frequency rate. The data were processed in Excel 2019 to obtain comparative values and statistical graphs. Methodologically, a pre-experimental design was applied, given that the indicators were analyzed before and after the implementation of the plan. The hypothesis was tested after a normality test that defined the combined use of parametric (Student's t-test) and non-parametric (Wilcoxon) tests, with analysis performed in SPSS v26.
The results showed a significant reduction in frequency, severity, and accident rates, along with a sustained increase in the prevention rate, demonstrating the effectiveness of the intervention. Likewise, the comparison between the pre-test and post-test results revealed statistically significant differences (p<0.05) in all cases, thus confirming the alternative hypothesis.
In conclusion, the adoption of the SG-SST in the metalworking company had a significant impact on the reduction of adverse events, thereby improving the preventive culture and the potential for replicability in industrial contexts with similar conditions.
