Atopic dermatitis (atopic eczema) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that significantly impacts the quality of life of adults and children in Ecuador and Latin America. Its prevalence has shown a notable increase in the region, attributed to specific genetic, environmental, and socioeconomic factors. This article presents a comprehensive review of the current epidemiology of atopic dermatitis, highlighting regional characteristics that influence its manifestation and management. Additionally, consensus guidelines for the treatment of this condition are outlined, based on the most recent scientific evidence and adapted to the clinical and contextual particularities of the Latin American population. A multidisciplinary approach is addressed, including topical care measures, pharmacological therapies, and strategies to improve treatment adherence, as well as the importance of patient and family education. This consensus also emphasizes the need for early diagnosis and comprehensive management to prevent complications and improve long-term prognosis. The article aims to serve as a practical guide for healthcare professionals to optimize the management of atopic dermatitis across different age groups, promoting a standard of quality and equity in medical care in Ecuador and the rest of Latin America.
