The rise of resistant microorganisms compromises the efficacy of treatments, impacts livestock productivity, and facilitates the spread of resistance genes among animals, humans, and the environment. This issue has driven the adoption of the "One Health" approach, which acknowledges the interdependence among these three components and promotes integrated control strategies. The objective was to analyze scientific evidence published between 2021 and 2026 regarding the contribution of veterinary medicine to the control of antimicrobial resistance in animal health, within the framework of the One Health approach. A systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines; the search was performed across Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and SpringerLink, using terms related to antimicrobial resistance, veterinary medicine, animal health, epidemiological surveillance, and One Health. The selection process comprised the phases of identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion. The studies identified the responsible administration of antimicrobials, biosecurity, vaccination, and epidemiological surveillance as key veterinary strategies. Programs promoting the rational use of antimicrobials demonstrated a reduction in unnecessary antibiotic use when supported by microbiological diagnostics and continuous monitoring. Epidemiological surveillance enabled the detection of resistant microorganisms, such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Campylobacter spp., and Staphylococcus aureus. It was concluded that veterinary medicine plays a fundamental role in reducing antimicrobial resistance; the results highlight the effectiveness of integrated health management programs and confirm that the "One Health" approach provides the most robust foundation for addressing this issue.
