Abstract

The objective of the research is to analyze the impact of the “Progressive Eradication of Begging” project on migrants settled in the parish of Santiago de Machachi, Mejía canton, Pichincha province, Ecuador. The sample for this study consisted of 15 participants from the migrant community in a situation of economic and social vulnerability. An exploratory-descriptive design with a qualitative approach was used. To collect information, a script of structured questions was used, designed based on strategic dimensions to analyze the economic, social, and psycho-emotional impact, as well as the effectiveness of the intervention strategies. The information collected was then systematized through categorical coding and thematic analysis. This instrument was validated by the research team at the Technical University of Cotopaxi, thus ensuring its relevance and consistency with the research objectives. The interview was conducted with the guarantee of data confidentiality prior to the signing of the informed consentform. The results showed that the project contributed to the reduction of begging through workshops, food kit deliveries, and psychosocial support. Improvements in income, networks, and self-esteem were also identified, although limitations persist in terms of immigration regularization, access to social services (health, education), and continuity of technical support. concluding that the project has generated initial positive effects, but its sustainability requires stronger inter-institutional coordination, inclusive policies, culturally relevant support mechanisms, and progressive financial support to facilitate the formalization of enterprises.
