This study aimed to implement gamification to enhance meaningful learning in Natural Sciences among fifth-grade students at Dr. Facundo Vela Educational Unit, located in the rural parish of Facundo Vela, Bolívar province, Ecuador. A quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest measurements was employed in a single group of 28 students. The intervention consisted of gamified pedagogical activities incorporating elements such as points, badges, levels, narratives, and challenges linked to the Natural Sciences curriculum content over eight weeks. Instruments included a knowledge test (α = .87) and an adapted motivation questionnaire (α = .91). Results showed statistically significant differences between pretest (M = 5.82, SD = 1.34) and posttest (M = 8.14, SD = 1.12) using paired samples t-test (t(27) = 8.47, p < .001, Cohen's d = 1.87). Additionally, motivation toward Natural Sciences learning increased significantly (p < .001). It is concluded that gamification constitutes an effective methodological strategy to foster meaningful learning and motivation in rural educational contexts with limited technological resources.
