Abstract

Savings and credit cooperatives play a fundamental role in financial inclusion and the socioeconomic development of communities, making governance quality a strategic element for ensuring institutional sustainability and legitimacy. The objective of this narrative literature review was to analyze the effects of governance on the reputational capital of savings and credit cooperatives, examining the influence of transparency, member participation, social responsibility, institutional oversight, and organizational trust on the development of a strong and sustainable reputation. To achieve this, a review of scientific literature from indexed databases was conducted, complemented by specialized technical documents on cooperative governance and organizational reputation. The findings indicate that good governance practices strengthen member trust, improve institutional legitimacy, and enhance organizational sustainability. Likewise, social responsibility, environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria, and democratic participation significantly contribute to the consolidation of reputational capital. The study concludes that governance is a determining factor in the construction of institutional reputation, as it directly influences perceptions of credibility, transparency, and social commitment among stakeholders, thereby strengthening the competitiveness and long-term sustainability of cooperatives within the financial sector-
