Abstract

Introduction: Carpal tunnel syndrome impairs sensation and strength in the hand and can be associated with repetitive tasks and sustained postures in nursing work. Methodology: A systematic review was conducted according to PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Open access studies published in the last five years were sought, without language restrictions, and relevant observational studies and reviews were included. Screening was applied by title and abstract. Results: Ten articles were analyzed. Estimates varied depending on the diagnostic method; clinical tests and ultrasound reported prevalences between 16% and 44%, and meta-analyses by body region showed wrist prevalences close to 32% in Asia and Europe and 29% for hand and wrist in the perioperative period. No comparable incidence data were found in nursing. Discussion: The heterogeneity suggests differences in case definition, exposure, and work organization, and demonstrates a continuum between symptoms and confirmed diagnosis. Conclusions: The nursing workload is significant and supports strengthening surveillance, ergonomics, and standardized longitudinal studies.
