Abstract

The study was conducted at Pico’s Engine Reconditioning Plant with the objective of reducing variability in the Toyota 2NZ engine block reconditioning area, thereby improving the quality and efficiency of the production process. Using a continuous improvement approach, the Six Sigma methodology, recognized for its effectiveness in controlling and optimizing industrial processes, was applied. The research was structured based on the DMAIC cycle, through which each stage of the process was analyzed in detail, identifying the main causes of rework and instability. The results showed that measurement errors and dimensional deviations were the critical factors affecting the quality of the reconditioning. Based on these findings, improvement actions were implemented, focusing on standardizing procedures, providing technical training for personnel, and strengthening measurement controls. These measures resulted in a significant reduction in defects and greater consistency in the results. The application of Six Sigma represents a strategic step towards operational excellence, promoting a culture of quality and contributing to efficiency, precision and customer satisfaction in block grinding.
