Abstract

The present study aims to examine the viable academic approach of university radio, directed as a formative and complementary means of communication for the development of oral communication skills in relation to student behavior and the professional integration of higher education students. A qualitative approach was used throughout the research, through a case study at the State Polytechnic University of Carchi (UPEC), with information triangulation as a research tool that allowed for data collection through interviews, documentary analysis, and a doctoral thesis protocol. The information collected was processed using source triangulation techniques and content analysis to ensure validity and rigor in the results. The findings of this research demonstrate that university students' experience with radio programs contributes to the development of oral communication skills, such as fluency, creativity, argumentation, improvisation, and eloquence.

Likewise, the impact of participation on radio is considered, focusing on confidence, teamwork, public speaking confidence, and the strengthening of transversal communication skills. University radio is designed as an enriching educational setting that seeks to integrate theory and practice by promoting the development of communication skills and, in turn, attitudinal competencies that guide the comprehensive development of students. The results are consistent with previous studies that highlight this traditional medium as a transformative educational communication tool in the university context. The research confirms that the role of radio is established as a complementary and pedagogical strategy to strengthen oral communication and additional communication skills, contributing to the personal, pedagogical, and professional development of students. The systematic incorporation of radio experiences into the university curriculum is suggested so that they become a practical and complementary component of traditional training processes.
