Abstract

The digital age has completely transformed the way mathematics is taught, creating a need for tools that facilitate the understanding of abstract concepts. Therefore, the main objective of this research was to create a digital tool for teaching geometry at the university level by integrating LaTeX and Manim. Additionally, the perception of students towards this tool was evaluated. To this end, a mixed-methods approach and a non-experimental, descriptive cross-sectional design were used. Academic support files were created using LaTeX packages (anímate, tikz, media9) and the Python library (Manim). The files were then presented to two groups of 14 and 8 students, respectively, from the mathematics program at the Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo (ESPOCH), to demonstrate how they work and evaluate their perception of this tool. The result was a set of academic files incorporating LaTeX and Manim in a single PDF document, which was distributed in three specific geometry topics, namely conics, quadric surfaces, and parametric curves. These were evaluated positively by the students due to the clarity, usefulness, and motivation provided by this tool. In conclusion, the combination of LaTeX and Manim is a viable resource for academic support in teaching geometry in mathematics degree programs.
