Cardiovascular diseases (CVD), such as ischemic heart disease and hypertension, are among the leading causes of mortality and morbidity worldwide. The objective of this research was to analyze CVD, this study compares temporal trends (2000 and 2021) in mortality in South American countries such as Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. A quantitative, qualitative, and descriptive investigation was conducted using data from the Pan American Health Organization, specifically from the CVD Burden of Disease portal. For the years 2000 and 2021, the mortality rate per 100,000 inhabitants was evaluated for Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Deaths due to CVD, ischemic heart disease, and hypertensive heart disease were analyzed. CVD had the highest number of deaths in Bolivia in 2000, highlighting the country as being prone to this disease. In 2021, Colombia had the highest mortality rates in this assessment. In ischemic heart disease, only Ecuador (10.2%) increased its proportion in 2021, while the other countries mitigated this cause of mortality. In hypertensive heart disease, Colombia accounted for the highest number of deaths in 2000, while after 21 years, this disease was led by Peru at 192%. Regarding changes or temporal trends in these diseases, there was positive progress in Colombia and Bolivia. In contrast, Ecuador was determined to be the nation with the greatest decline in the face of hypertensive and ischemic heart disease.
