Abstract

The handling of agrochemicals in corn cultivation is an essential practice for maintaining agricultural productivity; however, it also represents a significant source of occupational risks that may compromise the health and safety of workers exposed to these substances. In this context, the present study aimed to analyze the occupational risks associated with agrochemical handling and their influence on the health of agricultural workers through a comprehensive review of specialized scientific literature.

To achieve this objective, a documentary research approach was conducted based on the analysis of scientific articles, books, technical reports, and regulations related to occupational health and safety in the agricultural sector. The review of these sources made it possible to identify the main hazards associated with agrochemical handling, the most common routes of exposure, and the potential health consequences resulting from contact with these chemical substances.

The findings reveal that the inhalation of chemical vapors and particles, direct dermal contact, and prolonged exposure to agrochemicals are the most critical risk factors affecting agricultural workers. Furthermore, the literature reviewed indicates that inadequate training in the safe handling of agrochemicals and the improper use of personal protective equipment significantly increase the likelihood of respiratory, dermatological, neurological, and other occupational health disorders.

These results highlight the urgent need to strengthen preventive strategies, promote a stronger safety culture within the agricultural sector, and implement continuous training programs aimed at reducing occupational risks and safeguarding the health and well-being of workers involved in corn cultivation.
